Recommended Hotels in Iceland

Iceland, like any European country, offers a variety of accommodation options, ranging from luxury hotels in the city of Reykjavik to camping, cabins/guesthouses, farm stays, hostels, and more. Below is a list of various types of accommodations in popular travel destinations.

Please note: In Iceland, it is advisable to book accommodation well in advance because the tourism season is relatively short and hotels fill up far ahead of time.

Recommended Accommodations in Iceland:

Hotels

Iceland offers a wide range of hotels, but the most luxurious among them can only be found in the large city or in other major towns.

Hostels

A cheaper accommodation option is hostels scattered across Iceland. Hostels offer a variety of lodging options, from a large room intended for a group of travelers to double rooms. There is also an option to purchase breakfast as well as bed linens and towels (of course, you can bring your own sheets).

Farm Stays

At farm stays, you will find four different accommodation options, with shared or private bathrooms, sleeping bag accommodation, camping, and more. From farm stays, you can also embark on day trips, horseback riding, fishing, golf, and more.

Cabins and Summer Cottages

Cabins and cottages are suitable for couples and families and can accommodate up to nine people. Cabins guarantee true comfort and indulgence, often featuring a large fully-equipped kitchen, spacious rooms, a barbecue area, a washing machine, and even a jacuzzi and sauna (in some cabins). You can find cabins throughout Iceland, but in the southern region they are especially recommended, as you can set out from them on numerous day trips in the area.

Camping

Throughout Iceland there are over 70 campsites, and only within them is it permitted to camp. In Iceland, camping outside designated and authorized sites is not permitted. Campsites are very convenient and located in every town, close to major tourist attractions.
