Whale Watching from the Town of Husavik

Another interesting town to visit is Husavik, located 91 km northeast of Akureyri, off Route 85. Husavik is a fishing town on the western coast of the Tjörnes Peninsula, world-famous for its whale watching tours. In Husavik, the chances of spotting whales are among the highest in the world.

The Swedish explorer Gardar Svavarsson spent a winter here in 870 AD, and the homestead he built gave the town its name.
