Star Trips from Brussels
Waterloo Battlefield
Located about 18 km south of the center of Brussels.
A historic site of great importance and fame where the battle between Napoleon and the Duke of Wellington took place. Here Napoleon was defeated, which put an end to his glorious empire and liberated Europe in June 1815.
The site features a visitor center where you can obtain a wealth of information. At the center is a miniature model of the battlefield, an audiovisual show, films, and a souvenir shop.
Adjacent to the visitor center is a round building called "The Panorama", which houses a 360-degree panoramic painting of Napoleon's last battle. The painting is 12 meters high and 110 meters long. The artwork is accompanied by sound effects from the battlefield, such as the roar of cannons and gunfire.
"The Lion's Mound" Butte Du Lion is the main memorial site for the Battle of Waterloo. At the top of a high, green artificial hill stands a 28-meter-tall statue of a lion. The lion commemorates "the peace won by Europe at Waterloo". You climb the hill via 226 rather steep steps. From the top of the hill, there is an overview of the battlefield. Not suitable for young children.
You can join a guided tour called "The Discovery Tour", riding in a 4x4 vehicle across the battlefield while listening to explanations about the famous battle. The tour lasts about 45 minutes.
The site also features a wax museum depicting figures and events from the battle.
