Trip Along the Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast (Amalfi) is considered one of the ten most beautiful drives in the world. It is located in Italy, about 250 km south of Rome, in the Campania region (Campania). This 50 km long road touches the bay bearing the name of the nearby ancient town, and it is very winding due to the many inlets, passing through picturesque towns and villages hanging onto the cliffs dropping into the Mediterranean Sea.
The Amalfi Coast has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Aside from the dramatic cliffs and views, the area is also characterized by numerous lemon trees and orchards. In every town, you will find many shops boasting Limoncello, candies, soaps, candles, and other products derived from lemons. The scent is intoxicating!
Along the coast are several important and picturesque towns. It is important to remember that the road is scenic and most impressive, but mostly very winding. It is worthwhile to start this day early, drive carefully, and stop often for scenic viewpoints.

Positano
Positano Positano is the first charming town on the Amalfi Coast. In Positano, like in other towns along the coast, there is a parking shortage, so it is worth leaving the car in a parking lot and entering the city on foot from there.
Positano is famous for its colorful houses and the blue bay. It is recommended to wander on foot through the alleys and browse the shops and galleries. In summer days, it is especially refreshing to relax in front of the stunning sea.
Emerald Grotto
From Positano, we will continue driving for about 16 kilometers towards Amalfi. Along the way, it is recommended to stop to visit the Emerald Grotto Grotta di Smeraldo. This is a dark niche carved into the rock, and a small area of it is lit with a greenish light. The light comes from an underground opening, through which sunlight enters and reflects in the water. Highly recommended! In order to reach the cave, you must descend seven floors by elevator and take a boat ride inside the stunning cave. A very special and short visit.
Amalfi
After visiting the cave, we will continue driving towards the town bearing the name of the region, Amalfi. The town has a nice cluster of restaurants, cafes, galleries, and ceramic shops. About 6,000 residents live in this picturesque town. It is recommended to wander on foot along the main street going up the mountain and through the many alleys. The main site in the town is the main square, Piazza Duomo with the impressive Duomo Sait Andrea cathedral, located right at the entrance to the town and covered in mosaics.
Ravello
After visiting Amalfi, we will continue along the coast on the scenic road and turn onto the road climbing up to the town of Ravello Ravello. The town is surrounded by vineyards and orchards and sits on a balcony carved into the mountain at an altitude of 360 meters, above Amalfi. After a short climb up the stairs, we will reach the main square, Piazza Duomo, surrounded by plenty of shops and cafes.
In Ravello, it is worth visiting the gardens of Villa Cimbrone
Gardens which offer dramatic views of the cliffs, and/or Villa Rufolo
Villa Rufolo, which also offers an amazing view.
Villa Rufolo is
a 13th-century structure that has hosted kings, popes, and many other famous figures.
The beautiful coastal road ends near the largest town on the Amalfi Coast,
Salerno Salerno. On the way there you will pass two more villages worth stopping at for a short visit, Minori and Maiori, which are close to each other.
A stunning day trip that is entirely... driving and visiting inside a postcard!
