Travel and Vacation in Southern Taiwan in the Kenting Area
General Description
The southern tip of Taiwan in the Kenting area is a destination for travel and vacation because its weather is more successful than in the north, especially during the shoulder seasons, and it has sandy beaches where you can spend time and vacation. The southern region is actually a peninsula called the Hengchun Peninsula and it belongs to Pingtung County. The Kenting area is located about 110 km south of the city of Kaohsiung and about 460 km south of the capital city Taipei.
Little Bay Beach:
It is important to remember that the beaches in Taiwan do not come close in quality to the beaches of Thailand, but those traveling throughout the entire country and circling it can enjoy a relaxing day in the area.
The south is located in a tropical zone and the best time of the year to visit and vacation in the south is around spring and autumn: March to May and October to November. In summer it is hot and humid with a threat of tropical storms, and in winter it is too cool for swimming in the sea and strong winds may also occur.
Adjacent to the beaches in the south, you can also tour Kenting National Park so you can combine both vacation and nature trips without changing hotels.
Along the southern coast, there are many hotels of all levels and types.
Recommended Hotels in and around the Town of Kending:
A 4-star hotel overlooking the bay. It is recommended to choose a room with a sea view. The hotel features a nice and large pool, a gym, bowling, a kids' playroom, and a spa. The hotel has a restaurant serving Chinese and Western food.
A 5-star hotel located right next to one of the best beaches in the south: Little Bay Beach (pictured at the top of the page). The hotel features an outdoor pool, gym, kids' playroom, internet, and free parking.
A 4-star hotel with a pool, spa, and gym with a magnificent mountain view, located close to the Kenting National Park visitor center. The hotel has a bar and restaurant.

Beaches in Southern Taiwan
In the southern Taiwan area, there are several sandy beaches. The most successful ones in my opinion are:
Baisha Beach, Little Bay Beach, South Bay.
Baisha beach
Located at the southwestern tip of Taiwan, about 13 km west of the town of Kending in the White sand Bay. A beach with soft and pleasant white sand.
South Bay
Located 4 km west of the city of Kending. Coastal road No. 26 runs right next to it, and across the road are many restaurants and hotels. A beach with fine white sand with numerous umbrellas scattered along the shore.
Kending Beach
A long sandy beach along road 26, bordering the town of Kending.
Little Bay Beach
A sandy beach located in a small and protected bay as its name suggests. Located a few hundred meters east of Kending's long beach.
Shadao Beach
A sandy beach reserve made of shell and coral fragments, and entry to it is prohibited to preserve it. Located about 2 km northwest of the Eluanbi Lighthouse at the southern tip of Taiwan.

Additional Attractions
Kenting National Park
This park is the oldest national park on the island of Taiwan, dating from 1984, and includes most of the southernmost part of the island of Taiwan. The land area of the park is 181 sq km as well as 152 sq km of marine area. The park features a wide variety of animals, birds, mammals, reptiles, butterflies, and insects. The weather in the place is mostly tropical and sunny with beautiful mountain and beach scenery. The park is the most popular tourist site in Taiwan.
National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium
The National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium is located 19 km north of Kending. The museum features a large aquarium with a variety of marine life, corals, and a transparent tunnel to watch fish above you.
The southernmost lighthouse in Taiwan Eluanbi Lighthouse
The lighthouse built in 1883 was built with a fortress around it to protect it from attacks by the tribes that were in the area. It is located at the southernmost point in Taiwan. As of November 2019, the lighthouse is undergoing a series of renovations and a visitor center is also being built next to it. Near the lighthouse is a path leading to the rocky beach. At the end of the path is a sea observation deck. Entry is for a fee, near the entrance are several souvenir shops/stalls and a small temple.
Diving site
Near the hot water outlet point from the nuclear power plant, there is a popular diving and snorkeling site. It's a bit strange that divers are not afraid to dive in such a place.
Sail rock
A large rock in the sea next to the shore that also resembles in shape the head of former US President Nixon. Located about 3.5 km southeast of Kending.
