Hotels with Water Parks in the USA and Canada

♦ Routes (free): Detailed travel itineraries in USA

Part of the fun of a family trip is returning to the hotel in the afternoon and enjoying its facilities and attractions. You don't have to spend the whole day from dawn to dusk running between tourist sites, tours, attractions, and museums. It's nice to return early to watch TV or freshen up a bit in the pool. It's even nicer when the hotel has more than just a pool or a jacuzzi—but has a large, high-quality water park, and sometimes much more...

Water park inside a hotel

In Europe, we are used to the convenience of Center Parcs or Lalandia holiday villages, which have a variety of sports and leisure facilities, with the highlight being the indoor water park. Many spend an entire day or more in the holiday village and take star trips from it on other days. But in the US, for some unclear reason, everyone is rushing, passing through hotels in a flash, and not trying to incorporate some rest and recreation at their accommodation. When I recommended families stay in a villa in Orlando, many said: What for? We'll be at amusement parks all day anyway and return late. Those who took my advice and varied their time with a full or half-day at the villa and its facilities returned to say it was the highlight of the family trip. You can space things out and enjoy many other destinations as well. In the US, there are several magical hotels suitable for families that have a huge, high-quality indoor water park with free admission for hotel guests. Some of these hotels are located in popular, attraction-filled tourist destinations, providing an opportunity to stay a bit longer and combine vacation and enjoyment at the place of stay. This will allow you, and especially the children, to "recharge the batteries" before continuing to "conquer" the next destination.

Three warm recommendations, all of which can be booked online through user-friendly booking sites:

Great Wolf Lodge Hotel in Niagara Falls, Canada

This hotel belongs to the largest hotel chain in the US that includes water parks, with 13 branches in many US destinations (in addition to the Canadian hotel), such as near Boston in New England, in the Poconos in Pennsylvania, or in Williamsburg, Virginia. The hotel has a huge indoor water park with water temperatures of 29 degrees Celsius, including various slides, a tube course, a wave pool, a spacious area adapted for young children, and jacuzzis. The hotel also features mini-golf, bowling, a huge arcade for children and teenagers with numerous game machines, and a "factory" for creating teddy bears. The hotel provides its young guests with activities and shows around the clock. The hotel has a sophisticated gym and spa, including a children's spa. The hotel has 406 rooms and suites, including spacious family rooms for four people, themed suites with a "Kids' Camp," and "Lofts" suitable for a family of 6. The hotel is located on the Canadian side of the falls, which is the more beautiful side and also has the most attractions. You can spend 3-4 nights in the area without a moment of boredom.

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls and the Maid of the Mist

You can spend time in the area at both attractions related to the falls (observation points, cruises into the falls, elevators behind the falls, cable car over the whirlpools, etc.) and a variety of amusements and tourist sites not related to the falls at all: bird park, butterfly conservatories, flower clock, cool museums, and more. And of course, travel to the nearby charming town of "Niagara-on-the-Lake," and Canada's largest city—Toronto, located only about an hour and a half drive from Niagara Falls, along with other star trips to surrounding destinations. Information about the abundance of attractions in Niagara Falls in the article The Traveler's Guide to Niagara Falls.

Hope Lake Lodge & Indoor Waterpark in the Finger Lakes

The hotel features an indoor water park with plenty of slides and pools, a spa, game rooms and activities for young children, and a ropes course. The hotel also has a conference center. The hotel has 106 rooms and suites, ranging from family rooms for four people to huge suites that comfortably accommodate 10 people! It is essentially an apartment hotel where each unit has an equipped kitchen, a dining area, and even a fireplace. The hotel is located on the shores of "Hope Lake" in northern New York State in the city of "Cortland," the largest city in the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes are known for a wide variety of active outdoor recreation options and a range of waterfall-filled state parks in the area, and they are also considered the "Wine Country" of New York State.

Many visit the area for a night or two on the way from New York or New England to Niagara Falls, but when staying in a hotel full of attractions like this one, it is recommended to extend the stay by at least one night to enjoy the hotel and its facilities. Plenty of information about the route from New York to Niagara and travel options in northern New York State in the article: Traveling in New York State from Manhattan to Niagara Falls.

The hotel is located in the town of Sevierville, near the Smoky Mountains and the holiday towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, in an area considered one of the most popular family vacation destinations in the Eastern US. The area is full of amusements and active recreation options: from an amusement park (Dollywood) and a water park to numerous ropes courses, alpine slides, go-kart tracks, mini-golf, cool and interactive museums, an aquarium, cable cars, and more.

Nature lovers will enjoy hiking, driving, and horseback riding in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, located about a twenty-kilometer drive from the hotel. This is one of the nature parks where the chance of spotting bears is quite high.

Adventure seekers will enjoy rafting at various levels in nearby rivers, as well as rock climbing and canyoneering.

It is recommended to spend 5-7 nights in the area to enjoy the best attractions, combine leisure at the many resort facilities, cap it off with a good show, and of course, include some shopping. The Smoky Mountains region is wonderful to visit year-round. While it's colder in winter, you can ski on the mountain peaks. Before each holiday, the towns are festively decorated with holiday symbols. It's a great experience to visit the area toward Christmas, before the American Independence Day, or Halloween.
