Trip Itinerary from Orlando to Key West via Miami and the Everglades Park

♦  Back to main USA itineraries page

The main part of the itinerary is the visit to Orlando, which is the number one city in the world for family trips. If you want to visit everything it has to offer you will need at least two weeks, but since the entertainment sites in it are so large, impressive and packed, it is enough to visit for an intensive week or 10 days that also include more relaxed and lighter days. From Orlando, the itinerary continues south for a different kind of experience in other charming tourist areas of Florida: resort towns along the Atlantic coast, a subtropical national park (the Everglades), and an amazing and unique road that passes over long bridges and small islands with beautiful beaches all the way to Key West.

Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale is a lovely resort city on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, less than an hour's drive north of Miami. The city is built entirely on islands and inlets and is intersected by rivers and canals, so it is known as the "Venice" of Florida. This city is a favorite resort and amusement site for the wealthy of the US. In the city are most luxurious residential homes.

Nearby is the largest shopping/outlet center in Florida and one of the largest and most recommended in the US.

Key West/ Key Largo

The road to Key West is also called the "Overseas Highway" and is one of the most beautiful and special roads in the US. Driving on it is an experience of long bridge landscapes connecting many islands (22 in number) on Highway 1 that reaches Key West. It is definitely recommended to stop at some of the small islands, observe the views, spend time on the bathing beaches, and tour the small settlements scattered along the way. It is especially recommended to stop for an overnight stay on the island of Key Largo.
