Family Vacation and Trip to Lake Constance (Konstanz)

Lake Constance
Lake Constance is an ideal destination for families with little ones. It is situated at the meeting point of three countries: Germany (the southern Black Forest), Switzerland, and Austria, each offering a wealth of attractions and activities suitable for children of all ages, including toddlers.
On the German side of the lake, considered one of the most visited lake regions in Germany, there are many towns and villages where you can stay in charming holiday apartments at affordable prices.
The region offers active vacation options for the whole family: hiking trails through forests and around lakes, bike tours, horseback riding, lake cruises, mini golf, cycling, alpine coasters, hot air balloon flights, and more.
It is recommended to begin your vacation with a boat cruise to the flower island Insel Mainau. The island features flower greenhouses, topiary art, a butterfly house, a castle, play areas, and more. The island is considered the most famous tourist attraction on Lake Constance.
Not far from the flower island, in the city of Konstanz, it is worth visiting the large aquarium
called SEA LIFE Konstanz, where you can get a close look at sharks, sea horses, and a variety of fish from different regions.

Most of its rides and attractions are designed for young children, located less than a half-hour drive away.
Bird Park Vogelpark Steinen
Considered one of the largest and most impressive bird parks in Germany, featuring spectacular bird shows, as well as monkeys, kangaroos, and other animals.
Monkey Park
A wonderful park home to over two hundred Barbary macaques roaming freely in the forest, located near the town of Salem.
"Legoland" Park
Located in the town of Günzburg, especially suitable for little ones, it is about a 1:40 hour drive from the German side of the lake.
Additional Attractions
Near your accommodation base are also several small and fascinating museums, such as: an antique ship museum and the Zeppelin Museum.
It is also recommended to visit the town of Lindau, a beautiful and vibrant island city.
A short drive south will take you into Switzerland, which is also extremely family-friendly.
Within a drive of up to an hour and a half from the doorstep of your vacation rental, you can visit the lovely thermal water park "Alpamare" Alpamare located in the town of Pfäffikon, and the impressive Rhine Falls.
It is highly recommended to take a cable car up to the highest peak in eastern Switzerland: Säntis, and you cannot visit Switzerland without touring a chocolate factory: the Maestrani chocolate factory offers a behind-the-scenes look at the chocolate manufacturing process, complete with tastings...
On the Swiss side of Lake Constance, you can also visit an aviation museum: Fliegermuseum
and a natural history museum: Naturmuseum St. Gallen.
A drive of about half an hour (less than 20 km) will take you to the Austrian side of Lake Constance. This is a mountainous region featuring numerous cable cars ascending peaks overlooking the lake. In this area, you will truly feel like Heidi in the mountains.
It is lovely to drive along the "Cheese Road" - "Bregenzerwald Cheese Road" among farmsteads and dairy barns where you can visit, observe cheese production up close, discover artisan crafts, and more.
A scenic drive worth taking is the Silvretta High Alpine Road, which offers views over the highest peak in the Vorarlberg region.
