Trip to the City of Montevideo - Uruguay

The city of Montevideo is located on the northern bank of a massive river named "Río de la Plata" (River Plate).

Montevideo can also be reached on a cruise ship to South America; the port is located in the heart of the Old City, close to the main attractions. As soon as you step off the ship, you arrive at the popular food market Mercado del Puerto, renowned for its parrilla grill restaurants and completely surrounded by souvenir shops and stalls.

There is no need to take an organized cruise excursion or venture outside this vibrant and dynamic city, which is home to about 1.5 million residents (out of the country's population of about 3.5 million). It is highly recommended to explore on foot among its numerous squares, historic buildings, markets, alleyways, and the riverside promenade. Here too, in order to make the most of the relatively short time the ship spends in the city (only about six hours), taking a private guided walking tour is recommended.

Highly recommended is a tour (at a very attractive price!) with the friendly guide Alberto, owner of Ciudad Vieja Tour. Details and bookings by email: info@ciudadviejatour.com

The tour, which lasts about four hours, includes, in addition to visiting all the key tourist sites in the city and hearing fascinating explanations about its history, culture, and people, food tastings at one of the local restaurants, as well as an introduction to drinking the country's most popular tea (also popular in Argentina and other South American nations) – "Mate", which is sipped from a special cup with a filtered straw.

The tour also includes a short drumming workshop where you will learn to play the drums used by locals in marches and during Carnival. The workshop is held in a charming and unique little drumming school located in a building that formerly operated as a fuel plant.
