Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah and its economic and cultural center. It serves as the spiritual center of the Mormon sect, and this is its main uniqueness. Most tourist attractions in the city are related to Mormons. The city's main attraction is Temple Square. In the large square spanning two city blocks between South Temple St. and North Temple St., the main institutions of the Mormon sect are located: The Temple, an impressive and prominent building with a tower 64 meters high, which is open to Mormons only.
The Tabernacle, contains 6,500 seats and has unique acoustics and an organ, considered one of the best in the world. Concerts are held daily at noon. It is recommended to call to find out the exact time (in 2006 the building is under renovation, so concerts will take place in the conference center). Entrance is free. Also in the impressive Assembly Hall building located in the southwest corner of the complex, free concerts are held on Friday and Saturday evenings (no entry for children under 8). During the summer months, concerts are held at Brigham Young Historic Park.

In Temple Square there are also two visitor centers in the northwest and southeast corners, featuring displays, explanations, and films about Mormon doctrine and life. Visitor centers are open in the summer months from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM and the rest of the year from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Try not to miss watching the 45-minute film that romantically and fascinatingly describes the history of the Mormon sect and the life of its founder and first prophet, Joseph Smith. Children will also watch with interest. Beehive House is the home of the sect's second prophet and leader, Brigham Young, and his 26 wives and 52 children. The house has been restored and is open to visitors. Free guided tours, about 30 minutes long, are held daily between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM and depart every 10 minutes. This house, like all Mormon buildings, is very luxurious and elegant.
Guided tours of the square and various buildings, with explanations about the Mormon sect, its lifestyle, and faith, depart every few minutes. Don't miss this tour! Mormons are pleasant, polite, and hospitable people, and the tour is very interesting and suitable for all ages. From May to September, a guided "garden tour" (also free) is held, departing several times a day from the Church Office Building Plaza. The tour lasts one hour, during which you will visit the charming gardens in the Mormon complex and learn why gardening was so important to the city's first settlers.
Another site in the city worth visiting is Capitol Hill, where the Utah State Capitol building, the Council Building, and the Pioneer Memorial Museum are located. The Capitol building is an impressive building with a view of the entire city. Guided tours of about half an hour inside the building are held Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Address: 350 N Main.
Salt Lake City is located near the Great Salt Lake, considered the second saltiest lake in the world, after our Dead Sea. Nearby are several beaches which are not particularly developed.

In 2002, the Winter Olympics were held in the city, which contributed to its blooming and development. It is recommended to visit Utah Olympic Park, where guided tours are held among the Olympic facilities, including the ski jump and the bobsled track. In the summer months, you can ride the bobsleds yourself and find yourself descending in a minute at a speed of about 110 km/h, from a height of 40 floors. Intended for children aged 14 and up. There are other attractive facilities on-site such as: alpine slides, ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND, and ZIPLINE, a kind of fast and steep "omega" where you hover over the ski slopes. There is a shorter course, Ultra Zip, intended for those weighing 25 kg and up, and a longer and more daring course, Xtreme Zip, intended for those weighing 45 kg and up.
About 40 km southeast of the city is a popular ski resort named Snowbird, which serves as a resort for the whole family in the summer months. There is a large cable car that will take you to the top of a mountain at an altitude of 3400 meters, alpine slides, "zipline", a climbing wall, horseback riding tours, ATVs, mountain bikes, and other entertainment facilities. About 30 km north of the city, on highway I-15, near the town of Farmington, lies a large amusement park named: Lagoon Amusement Park, in the style of a 19th-century pioneer village. In addition to the usual amusement park rides, it also features carriage rides, historical exhibitions, two theaters, and a water park. The park is open daily from late May to early September; in April and September, the place is open on weekends only. This is an excellent place for a family outing of several hours to burn off energy before visiting the national parks. Additional tourist information about Salt Lake City can be obtained at the city's visitor center, its address: 90 S. West Temple St.
