Most tourist sites are concentrated in a relatively narrow strip in the city center extending from the Delaware River (near the Franklin Bridge) to Fairmount Park near the Schuylkill River. The city has several important museums, such as: The Franklin Institute Science Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, and more, but you will likely be satisfied with the famous and impressive museums of New York and Washington and dedicate your time in Philadelphia to sites unique to the city.

The Liberty Bell

After a short walking tour of the city center, where you can admire the beautiful buildings and historical sites (which most children will not be particularly enthusiastic about), stop at the U.S. Mint located at the corner of 5th and Arch Streets. At the Mint, you can take a self-guided tour and follow the production process of all types of American coins behind glass walls. Philadelphia is home to the largest city park in the world: Fairmount Park, which covers about 32,000 dunams (approx. 8,000 acres). The park features gardens, streams, trails, and playgrounds, as well as many museums and historical buildings. The Philadelphia Zoo is also located in this park. The park is reached via Franklin Pkwy.

Philadelphia is a paradise for shopping enthusiasts. The city has many shopping centers, the largest and most famous of which is Franklin Mills, located on Woodhaven Road near the I-95 highway, about 26 km north of the city center. This center has branches for most of the well-known chains (including the discount chains) in the US. It is also worth visiting the Italian Market located on 9th and 10th Streets south of Market Street. The market is full of food and spice shops and good restaurants.

Address of the city's main visitor center: 16th St. corner of John F. Kennedy Blvd.

Trip to gardens outside the city

About a 45-minute drive west of Philadelphia in Kennett Square on US-1, there are beautiful botanical gardens called Longwood Gardens that you should not miss visiting. The site has outdoor gardens and indoor conservatories, fountains, lakes, tropical plants, and rose gardens. There are also special gardens for children with mazes and other surprises. In the summer, fireworks and fountain shows take place. Throughout the year, there are special rotating displays. The gardens are open all year round, but opening hours vary by season.
