Travel and Vacation on the Island of Maui

Maui is the second largest island in the Hawaiian chain, covering an area of approximately 1,866 square kilometers. About 130,000 residents live on the island, and it attracts 2.3 million tourists annually. But it's not just people who visit Maui. Every winter, thousands of Humpback whales—more than half of the global population of these whales—arrive in the warm waters adjacent to the island to mate and reproduce. In the past, Maui was the whaling capital of the world, and today it is very popular to go on whale-watching cruises. Maui is also known by its nickname, the "Magic Isle," because it instills a sense of peace and rest for both body and soul. The island features a relaxed lifestyle accompanied by sun, sea, breeze, and clean, clear air that contribute to quality of life and longevity. There are no large, crowded cities like Honolulu on the island, but at the same time, one can find a large selection of clubs, bars, art performances, and entertainment, so nightlife enthusiasts will also find plenty of interest. It is worth dedicating a full week to visiting the island.

The variety of travel and vacation options in Maui is vast: beaches among the best in the world, such as NAPILI BAY—a beach located in a closed bay with completely calm water and pleasant white sand. It is very convenient to dive and snorkel there among the abundance of colorful fish swimming peacefully right near the shore.

The island has dozens of other recommended beaches (the best for swimming are on the western and southern sides of the island), and those who desire rough seas and surfing will find what they are looking for on the northern coast of the island.

Recommended trips and activities on the island are:

Haleakalā National Park HALEAKALA NATIONAL PARK

This is a dormant volcano that overlooks Maui and from it, a spectacular view of the cities, beaches, lava paths is seen, and one can even see the "Big Island" from the summit. It is recommended to arrive at the park in the early morning hours before its peak is covered by clouds that hide the view.

The park has hiking trails at various difficulty levels, starting with trails of less than a kilometer suitable even for the more relaxed among us. The mountain is abundant with interesting vegetation that integrates into the lava rivers. One must take into account that it is quite cold at the mountain peak and a coat should be brought. For sunrise lovers, it is recommended not to miss the sunrise at Haleakalā, it is one of a kind! Many bike tours are held down the mountain.

A sunrise tour to the volcano can be purchased from Viator: Majestic Haleakala Sunrise Tour with Pick-up
