General Information

Las Vegas has become a resort and amusement city for the whole family, not just for gamblers. Besides Orlando, no other city in the US provides so many special entertainment and recreation options.

Most of the hotels considered luxury hotels of the city 30 years ago and more have been completely demolished or expanded and renovated beyond recognition, and even more luxurious new hotels have been built. Today, Las Vegas is home to some of the largest hotels in the world, where each hotel is not only a place for lodging, gambling, and eating, but a small city with special attractions and amusements. Every year, new "Mega Resorts" are built in the city: hotels built around a specific theme, such as: circus, knights, carnival, Egypt, Paris, Venice, and the list goes on. Each hotel has thousands of rooms, casino halls, restaurants of all kinds, special shows, amusement facilities for children, shops, pools, and additional attractions. Almost every hotel has world-class entertainment performances, amusements, electronic games, and simulators suitable for children of all ages. In Las Vegas, many of the largest hotels in the world are found. As of 2018, 14 of the 25 largest hotels in the world are located in Las Vegas, all on the same street! 3 of them have over 6,000 rooms! (For comparison, the largest hotels in Israel have up to 500 rooms). The city has the largest number of hotel rooms than any other city in the US—over 147,000. In the years before the pandemic, over 40 million tourists visited it every year!

Las Vegas is also close to interesting travel routes. For golf enthusiasts, there are high-level golf courses, and for motor sports fans, there are car racing tracks. Extensive water sports activities exist in the nearby lakes.

Attractions in the Main Hotels on the Strip

Below is a description of the most impressive hotels and especially those with activities suitable for the whole family. It is unlikely you will manage to visit all of them due to lack of time as each hotel is virtually a small city and requires time to tour.

Circus Circus

The first gambling hotel to adopt the principle of providing active recreation for the whole family alongside gambling halls decades ago. It has an entire floor with daily acrobat and clown performances until midnight. Around it in the Midway, there are plenty of games and throwing facilities suitable for children and adults, where you can win many teddy bears and dolls. Adjacent to the hotel is a covered and air-conditioned amusement park (extremely important in the scorching summer months!) called: Adventuredome Theme Park, which features a roller coaster with two full loops, boats that slide down a steep slope, 4D simulators, laser tag, and other rides suitable for all ages. You can purchase a daily ticket for free use of all facilities, or separate tickets for each ride.

A new attraction (paid) in the hotel is "The Chuck Jones Experience," a must-see attraction for fans of animation and cartoons. It is a guided tour at a site specifically built for a creative and animation experience. At the beginning of the tour, you will enter a 1930s-style cinema hall, where you will see a short film about Chuck Jones, one of the greatest animators of all time, the "father" of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Afterwards, you will move to a street where you will meet famous cartoon characters, learn how they become three-dimensional, and enter Chuck Jones' reconstructed studio. From there, you will move to the "Animation Alley" where you will watch a multi-media display including clips from famous cartoons. The tour ends with a creative workshop where you can try your hand at animation and test your skills in the field.

Circus Circus Hotel in Las Vegas

 Caesars Palace

This is one of the most beautiful hotels in Las Vegas, in my opinion, even though serious competitors have arisen in recent years. The hotel is one of the oldest in the city, but it underwent a thorough renovation a few years ago and has since been renewing and growing every year. It has a charming shopping and entertainment center called: Forum, built as a covered Roman street with a ceiling that simulates a sky constantly changing colors, looking like midday sky at times, like twilight at others, and occasionally with a beautiful sunset. In the street are squares with Roman-style statues, and at one end of the street (near the aquarium) are fountains with statues that move and speak every hour combined with many effects of fire, water, and lasers. The Forum contains many impressive shops, where it might not be worth shopping because they are expensive, but it's pleasant and interesting to wander through them. Some of the impressive stores are the Nike store, which is a giant and impressive hall containing all the latest models and innovations of the company, the Apple store, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, the "Schwarz" toy store, and many galleries. In the Forum is a giant aquarium with over 500 tropical fish. Twice a day, you can watch the feeding of the fish in the aquarium.

Caesars Palace Hotel

 The Strat (formerly Stratosphere)

The main attraction in this hotel is a needle-shaped tower towering at its top, rising to a height of 356 meters above the "Strip". This is the tallest observation tower in the US. It is 48 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower. It offers a spectacular view of the entire city. Especially recommended after dark when the city is lit up and glowing. It has two observation decks, one covered and one open. At the top of the tower are four hair-raising attractions, intended for the brave only: The Big Shot - seats that fly into the sky at tremendous acceleration (4G) from the top of the tower to a height of 50 meters and fall in a free fall back to the starting point.

Stratosphere Tower Attractions at the top of the Stratosphere tower:  Attraction at Stratosphere Tower  Attraction at Stratosphere Tower  Attraction at Stratosphere Tower

X-Scream - a special train running on a track that changes its angle until reaching a distance of about 8.5 meters beyond the edge of the tower, meaning: under you there is no floor and you are suspended at the height of a 100-story building and only the train track separates you from Las Vegas spread below. Insanity-The Ride (and indeed a certain amount of insanity is desirable to dare to ride the facility...). The facility is called an "inverted centrifuge". It is actually a giant carousel where you rotate at very high speeds and are suspended hovering over Las Vegas, when all that holds you is the rotating arm of the carousel. Participants in the experience feel a 3G acceleration while they are about 20 meters beyond the edge of the tower! The newest attraction is called Sky Jump and is suitable only for the very brave (www.skyjumplasvegas.com). This is actually a controlled free fall where you jump from the 108th floor of the Stratosphere tower dressed in a special suit and connected to a vertical cable connected to a device that controls the speed and slows down the fall when approaching the ground. Like other hair-raising attractions, the Sky Jump was also invented in New Zealand, where it has been popular for over ten years. This is the first facility of its kind in the US and the tallest in the world! It is recommended to book in advance for the jump. You can purchase a ticket for a single attraction from the first three or a combined ticket for several attractions at a discounted price. The tower has a sophisticated lighting system, creating a "light dance" show every evening, a sight visible from almost anywhere in Las Vegas. The site also has a luxury restaurant with a 360-degree view and many restaurants and shops (on the lower floor of the tower).

 The Mirage

At the entrance to the hotel is a "volcano" that erupts every half hour in the evening, emitting molten lava and flames that reach the waterfalls and create an amazing show of fire and water. Near the main entrance is a tropical rainforest with tall palm trees, orchids, and other tropical flowers and waterfalls. Inside the hotel: a cage with white tigers and other animals, a giant aquarium taking up the whole reception area, and a dolphin habitat where several dolphins live in a giant pool with a million gallons of seawater. Visitors can (for a fee) watch the dolphins above and below the water surface.

Love Show - by Cirque Du Soleil

The show is presented at The Mirage. A show by the "Sun Circus" that combines the acrobatics and wonderful stunts of the virtuoso troupe with the music of the Beatles.

 Bellagio Hotel

One of the world's most expensive hotels, built in the style of a reconstructed Italian town near Lake Como. Opened in late 1998, it contains the most expensive European decoration and furniture. Thousands of fountains fill the lake in front of the hotel and are lit at night in many colors. Every hour in the evening, a spectacular fountain show accompanied by music of great composers takes place. Inside the vast lobby are impressive and colorful botanical gardens with exotic flowers in vibrant shades. On the lobby ceiling are 2,000 glass flowers created by the renowned American artist Dale Chihuly. The hotel has a large gallery of famous artworks including sculptures and paintings by great artists (entry for a fee).

Show "O" by Cirque Du Soleil

The show takes place at the "Bellagio" show hall. A show by the "Sun Circus" including stunning and innovative effects and considered the most impressive show in Las Vegas.

 Venetian Hotel, The Venetian

A grandiose hotel, among the largest in the world, located in the heart of the Strip and built with architecture that is a replica of the romantic Italian city of Venice (only cleaner, more polished, and orderly). The complex includes squares, lagoons filled with gondolas (which you can ride for a fee), towers, and bridges. Several times a day, various street shows are held in the colorful street. This is a city within a city that wandering through is impressive. Inside the hotel is a branch of the famous London wax museum: Madame Tussauds. The museum primarily displays figures of American movie, pop, rock, entertainment, and sports stars. Entry for a fee. Adjacent to the Venetian hotel and connected to it is another hotel named The Palazzo, built a few years later and designed in the same style. Together, these two hotels have over 7,000 rooms!

Luxor Hotel, Luxor

The main hotel building is built in the shape of a giant 40-story Pharaonic pyramid. The entrance to the hotel is through a giant sphinx, and in the lobby are "mummies" and Egyptian statues. The hotel has several recommended exhibitions (entry to each for a separate fee). The most famous and echo-arousing of all is BODIES... The Exhibition. The exhibition displays 13 whole preserved bodies and 260 real human organs preserved that will teach you in a tangible and amazing way how the human body looks from the inside. You will see muscle systems, blood vessels, skeletal system, observe closely the difference between lungs of a smoker and healthy lungs, see what Alzheimer's does to a person's brain and alcohol to their liver. Some exhibits can even be touched. Another recommended exhibition is the Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, displaying many items from the sunken ship (such as: suitcases, whistles, champagne bottle, window frame from first class, etc.) and also a model of the grand central staircase, a model of the deck (where you can feel the cool temperatures of that fateful April 15, 1912 night) and more.

An attraction in the hotel is Score!  - an interactive sports display including halls of fame for diverse sports (such as: basketball, baseball, boxing, car racing, football, hockey, and many others), more than 200 prestigious trophies and awards from various sports competitions and allows visitors to take an active part in various sports activities and measurements, such as measuring the speed of a baseball hit, or participating in a hockey drill. The site includes a shop selling various sports brands and souvenirs from teams in the leading leagues of popular US sports. The hotel has an entertainment and recreation area called the "Atrium" with shops, restaurants, and a show hall. A powerful laser beam at the tip of the pyramid lights up the city's sky during the dark hours.

The Blue Man Group show is also presented at the Luxor.

 WYNN LAS VEGAS

This is the first resort built in the city (in 2005) without a specific "theme," but rather named after its founder, Steve Wynn. Adjacent to the luxurious bronze-glowing hotel tower, which is impressively designed and features beautiful flower paintings on the floor, a 7-story man-made mountain with plenty of trees was built. From the hotel, one can see the mountain, a lake, and several waterfalls reaching a height of over 30 meters. Another attraction is the dancing fountains with special effects.

Adjacent to the Wynn hotel is the Encore hotel, a suite hotel with a structure and design similar to the Wynn (here the floor is decorated with colorful butterflies).

MGM Grand hotel:

The largest hotel in the city, which is expanded every few years, changing its appearance, design, and attractions. It was originally built around the movie theme, particularly The Wizard of Oz. The hotel has large pools designed as an exotic beach. Near the main hotel, two luxury boutique hotels belonging to the same hotel complex have been built in recent years: the Signature and Skylofts. The hotel also includes copies of famous Parisian buildings like the Opera, the Louvre, and the Arc de Triomphe standing in front of the hotel and is two-thirds the size of the original. Adjacent to the hotel is an amazing water park with a giant wave pool capable of creating huge waves that can be surfed, a long lazy river, and a sandy "beach". The pools are for hotel guests only, but it is nonetheless justified to visit the hotel and admire its impressive design.
