At the beginning of 2021, Carnival launched its largest ship, the first of its kind: Mardi Gras. The ship, which is considered the "new generation" of cruise ships (but named after the company's first ship launched back in 1972), was built in Finland.

Home Port
The home port of the ship since March 2021 is Port Canaveral, about an hour's drive from Orlando. A huge and innovative terminal was built at this port specifically for this giant ship. The Mardi Gras sails alternating "classic" one-week itineraries in the Western and Eastern Caribbean. In the Eastern Caribbean, the ship reaches Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and the port of Grand Turk in Turks and Caicos. In the Western Caribbean, the Mardi Gras reaches two ports in Mexico: Cozumel and Costa Maya, and the island of Roatan in Honduras.
Ship Description and Attractions
The ship weighs 180,000 tons with 2,500 cabins and up to 6,600 passengers (5,200 at double occupancy) and 1,800 crew members. It is the first ship in North America powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), making it particularly environmentally friendly. The ship has six main "neighborhoods" (entertainment and leisure areas) with a different character and style:
"Grand Central" (located in the center of floors 6-8) – This is the ship's central space (previously called the "Atrium"), an entertainment hub with activities and entertainment day and night. This space features giant windows 3 floors high and leads to the Piano Bar, the Comedy Club, and Asian restaurants.
"French Quarter" (located at the back of floor 6) – A district of restaurants and bars connected by a 2-story promenade to a New Orleans-style jazz club.
"La Piazza" (in the middle of floor 8) – A neighborhood with an Italian atmosphere featuring a pizzeria operating 24 hours a day, a seafood restaurant, a lounge, a bar, and music every evening.
"Summer Landing" (at the back of floor 8) – Featuring a pool, hot tubs, plenty of places for relaxation and rest alongside a brewery, a BBQ restaurant, and a bar.
"Lido" (at the aft of floors 16-17) – This is the main pool deck, the buffet, and a variety of restaurants and food stalls.
"The Ultimate Playground" (at the back of floors 18-19) – The family playground featuring the largest water park of all company ships, Carnival WaterWorks, a rope park surrounding a basketball court, a charming mini-golf course full of surprises,
a jogging track surrounding the entire ship, and the central and first-of-its-kind innovation at sea: the "BOLT Ultimate Sea Coaster" roller coaster.
Additionally, of course, the ship (similar to Carnival Horizon and Vista) features an adults-only area: "Serenity" with pampering facilities and a calm atmosphere – at no extra cost!

The ship has 22 categories of accommodation suitable for every budget and style, including an exclusive Cuban complex with uniquely designed Havana Cabana cabins, a private pool for complex residents, a bar, and a dance club, as well as dedicated family rooms called: Family Harbor Cabin.
