A Trip to Carlsbad: Flower Fields, Legoland, Shopping, and Restaurants
♦ Routes (free): Detailed travel itineraries in USA
General
Carlsbad is located on the coast of Southern California, about a half-hour drive north of San Diego and a little over an hour south of Los Angeles. The town is primarily known to tourists for Legoland, which was established nearby, and for the beautiful flower fields grown in Carlsbad.
Additionally, for shopping enthusiasts, there is a large outlet shopping center nearby named Carlsbad Premium Outlets. These three sites are adjacent to each other in the southern part of Carlsbad. However, it is also worth touring the city of Carlsbad itself, and the most recommended way to do this is with a guided food tour that includes explanations of the city's history, as detailed below. The weather in the area is perfect! It is usually sunny, with comfortable temperatures in all seasons. This is a great destination for a trip in any month of the year.

The Theme Park
The park features 64 rides, attractions, and shows. You can drive electric cars, ride a charming train, sail boats among Lego structures, search for treasures, walk among Lego animals, have fun in giant play areas, a water play area, and huge buildings with options for building and playing with Lego bricks of all types. The highlight of the park: models of famous US cities built entirely of Lego: New York, the Las Vegas Strip, New Orleans, San Francisco, Washington D.C., and Southern California landmarks.
There are also several shows performed in the park, which are particularly suitable for young children. Many rides in the park are suitable even for toddlers aged one to two, and in many rides, parents can join the children.
Water Park
A recommended and themed water park including a variety of facilities, including unique ones not found in other water parks:
Sailing in a river on a raft made of Lego-like inner tubes that you assemble yourself, various types of slides for a range of ages, sliding with mats, boats, and tubes, building Lego boats and sailing them in water, a wave pool, water cannons, and waterfalls that splash visitors.
Aquarium
In the modern aquarium, there is a variety of marine animals from small fish and corals to sharks, octopuses, and rays. It includes a "petting pool" where you can touch a variety of sea creatures such as starfish and sea cucumbers.
A new and interactive exhibit at the site is: The Sea at Night – in a slightly dark hall, a large screen is installed with scenery of stars and a glowing sea whose glowing waves wash onto the room's floor (which is also a large screen), and children jump on these waves and create ripples on them, all without getting wet...

Guided Food Tour in the City of Carlsbad
As mentioned, most tourists do not visit the city of Carlsbad itself, which is a pity. It is highly recommended to join a guided tour of the city's historic center that combines a food tour between several food and drink destinations with a tour and fascinating explanations related to the history and culture of Carlsbad.
Book the food tour from GetYourGuide.com:
A historic building on the main street in Carlsbad built in 1883 that served as a hotel:
The food tour begins at an Italian restaurant called Cicciotti’s where you receive a delicious and generous portion of noodles in mushroom sauce followed by a crisp wafer roll – cannoli, filled with cream; a very recommended start. The chef himself, who wrote an Italian cookbook, will serve you the dishes.
The next stop is a crepe restaurant called Froglanders where they serve delicious filled crepes. There are both sweet and savory crepes. Very recommended.
During the trip, the guide also gives tips on additional restaurants in the vicinity. The next restaurant is a Mexican restaurant serving shawarma and vegetables inside a tortilla.
Further on, you reach a winery where three types of wines are served alongside strawberries with whipped cream.
The tour ends at an ice cream parlor called GelatoLove where you receive four types of ice cream in small cups.
The excellent guide on the tour also explains the history of Carlsbad, whose development began when one of the founders managed to drill deep enough into the ground and discovered that it had excellent drinking water, similar to the famous mineral springs in Europe. To this day, local residents fill large containers with water from the site where the water was discovered.
The city of Carlsbad is located, as mentioned, on a long beach. Along the beach are hotels, and on the sandy beach strip are many umbrellas and bathers alongside surfers trying their luck at surfing the waves.
