Boston

The itinerary begins in Boston, and you can read about its tourist attractions in my article: Guided Tours and Attractions in Boston and its surroundings

Plymouth

A drive of less than an hour (65 km) south from Boston on Route 93 will lead you to historical Plymouth. Anchored in the city's harbor is a vessel that is an exact replica of the historical ship Mayflower, in which the first settlers (the Pilgrims) arrived at Cape Cod and from there continued to Plymouth and settled. On the ship, which serves as a floating museum, you will meet actors dressed in period clothing (1620) telling stories about their lives on the small ship that crossed the Atlantic Ocean in winter. Address: Water Street Plymouth, MA 02362. Nearby is the rock to which the Pilgrims tied their ship in 1620.
Across the road is the statue of the Indian Chief Massasoit, who helped the settlers and befriended them.

There are many other tourist sites in the city related to the life of the Pilgrims. For example: Plimoth Patuxet Museums, a charming historical open-air museum full of activities. Address: 137 Warren Avenue, Plymouth, MA 02360. Before leaving the city, it is worth stopping by the National Monument to the Forefathers, which is one of the largest statues in the US.

Newport

From there, drive southwest for about an hour and a quarter (95 km) to Newport, located in the smallest state in the US: Rhode Island. It is a beautiful city situated on a peninsula, completely surrounded by water, with yacht harbors, beautiful beaches, and cliffs. It is nice to stroll around the yacht harbor area along the street full of souvenir shops, galleries, and antique shops, and drive along the scenic Ocean Drive running along the sea. Newport is known for its impressive buildings. There are many luxurious mansions where you can take a tour.

Mansion in Newport

The most impressive mansion of all is: The Breakers, address: 44 Ochre Point Ave., Newport, RI 02840.

The most recommended mansion for a family visit is actually located in the nearby town of Portsmouth. Its name, Green Animals Topiary Garden, expresses its uniqueness well: in the courtyard of the building (which is not particularly impressive) is a lovely garden with bushes trimmed in the shape of various animals and interesting geometric shapes, in addition to a pleasant vegetable garden. You will find 21 animal-shaped bushes there, including a bear, elephant, horse, and birds. Address: 380 Cory's Lane, Portsmouth, RI 02871. It is recommended to walk along the famous and scenic path along the sea called: Cliff Walk; this is a 3-mile path (you can walk just a part of it) situated on a cliff with a beautiful view of rocks and sea on one side and luxurious mansions and gardens on the other. Tennis enthusiasts are invited to visit the International Tennis Hall of Fame located in a charming historical building surrounded by tennis courts with well-kept grass surfaces. Address: 194 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI.

Mystic

From Newport, continue driving for about an hour (75 km) west on Route 138 and then south on I-95 to the town of Mystic in the state of Connecticut. Mystic, a pleasant harbor town hundreds of years old, became famous thanks to the movie "Mystic Pizza" starring Julia Roberts and has become a popular tourist destination.

Mystic Pizza

But in addition to pizza, there is much more to do and see in the area. Located in Mystic Harbor is the Mystic Seaport Museum, a lovely open-air museum with 60 ancient buildings, three large ships, and many other small vessels.

Sailing Ship

In each building, a guide tells visitors what the building was used for and demonstrates the work performed in it. Address: 75 Greenmanville Avenue, Mystic, CT 06355. The town also houses an interesting aquarium: Mystic Aquarium, which also features an impressive display about the famous ship "Titanic".

New York

Option A for ending the itinerary:

From the town of Mystic, the way to New York passes along the Connecticut coast on Route 95 through towns and cities. After about a two-and-a-half-hour drive (distance: 220 km), you will return much more relaxed and calm to the bustle of the Big Apple.

Option B for ending the itinerary:

Springfield

Another option for ending the itinerary, particularly suitable for basketball fans and amusement park lovers, is driving from Boston to Springfield (also in the state of Massachusetts), considered the birthplace of basketball, where the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is located. Address: 1000 W Columbus Ave, Springfield, MA. This is actually an impressive interactive museum presenting famous basketball players, teams, and coaches from the distant past to today.

Basketball Hall of Fame

Located nearby is the largest amusement park in New England belonging to the Six Flags chain, named: Six Flags New England, which, as expected from the chain's parks, features a variety of sophisticated and fast roller coasters and other dizzying rides.

Roller Coaster

It is particularly popular with teenagers, although it also has calm rides for the younger children. The park also includes a water park named "Hurricane Harbor," with entrance included in the park admission price. The park is open daily from late May to early September, and on weekends and holidays in April, September, and October. Address: 1623 Main St, Agawam, MA 01001. Springfield is located about a 1:40 hour drive (150 km) southwest of Boston (on I-90) and 2:30 hours (230 km) northeast of New York City.
