Written by: Orad E B.
About 90 km south of Christchurch lies the charming town of Akaroa, nestled in a picturesque bay. The town sits on a tranquil harbor formed by a volcanic eruption. The town's name means "Long Harbor," and historically it was the first French settlement in the country. The French influence is still evident throughout the town, visible in the street signs, house names, and restaurant menus.

Just a short drive from Christchurch, you will reach a true natural gem. For all animal lovers, and especially those who prefer seeing wildlife in their natural habitat, a visit here comes highly recommended.
The marine wildlife here is also renowned, with many boat tours departing from the town to observe marine life, particularly dolphins, and even offering opportunities to swim alongside them.
